Magic is illegal. And unfortunately, you have it.
You always knew there was something in you, in your blood.
Candles flickered when your heart raced, whether it was out of fear or desire. And once, only once, when someone jumped out and scared you, you felt the burn of magic in the tips of your fingers. You could see the air quivering as if intense heat was emanating from you.
You thought you kept it hidden well, never having cast a spell in your life.
Until the knock came. Paladins, the Sunstone sigil proudly displayed on their breastplates, stood at your door. “By the Emperor’s decree, you are to be escorted to Sunstone Spire.”
There was no trial. There was no inquiry. They brought forth shackles etched with runes that burned cold against your skin and pulled you out of your home with a hand on each elbow.

The journey is tense, quiet, the Paladins refusing to speak even to each other. On the last day, at daybreak, you see it. Sunstone Spire cuts the horizon in half, a dark ebony shadows that spears out of the middle of a lake and blocks the sun as it begins to rise.
The closer you get, you can see the gold-veins in the dark bricks that make up the massive fortress that is soon to be your prison. With narrow windows and heavily guarded doors, it isn’t just going to prison the body but the mind as well.
The moment you step through the door, a chill skips down your spine. You can sense something within the Spire tugging at the magic in your veins.
One of the Paladins grips your arm tighter, perhaps sensing the change in the air. He eyes his partner, but the other seems entirely unaware as they lead you through the maze of hallways and stairs to the upper floors. The higher you go, the further away you are from freedom and it sinks low in your gut.
The shackles are removed, the frigid touch of the runes dissipates. For the first time in your life, the power inside you begins to simmer beneath your skin, burning hotter and brighter like never before. Frightening, even to you, and worse if the Paladins think you’re uncontrollable.
What do you do?
A.) Suppress your magic. Make yourself as seemingly harmless as possible. Survival is your top priority.
B.) Test your power in the smallest way possible, just enough to understand it better.
C.) Lash out. If they fear magic, give them something to truly fear. If you’re a prisoner then it’s time to escape.
D.) Do nothing because whatever is pulling at your magic is calling out to you.
